Entertainment & The Arts
With 22,600 unique and over 66,000 turnstile attendance in 2015, MomoCon is one of the fastest growing all ages conventions in the country. Fans of Japanese Anime, American Animation, Comics, Video Games, and Tabletop Games come together to celebrate their passion by costuming / cosplay, browsing the huge exhibitors hall, meeting celebrity voice talent, designers, and writers behind their favorite shows, games, and comics and much much more over this 4 day event. Whether you are an anime fan, gamer, comic reader, or just like watching cartoons, all are welcome at MomoCon! MomoCon is an incredibly visual event, and it may be best to look at this video to get more an idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-G66SX8iwk
MomoCon is first and foremost an event. Because it is an unusual event, we have to let our pictures do more of the talking. And we have a lot of pictures, which you can see and use the ones located here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwAz83mGQEecfnE1dlVVSXh3S1BLOVVxNzdHLVh4c1JvTl9Ib3dPUW50WEo2WWRwMERobmM Pictures are a great way to communicate, and advertise the event, but pictures can also get in the way of information that someone needs to know, such as: Where is MomoCon? When is MomoCon? How much does it cost? How do I register? What celebrity guests will be at MomoCon? What else is there to do at MomoCon? as well as more granular questions like: Where to park? How to book a hotel room? What hours on what days is X event happening? For this reason we decided to put together a lot of the important information on one page: http://www.momocon.com/momocon-2016-important-information/ The problem is our website is too cluttered, and the more information we add the more unprofessional we look. It also becomes a usability issue of people finding answers to the specific question they are looking for. We get many e-mails a month asking us basic information such as when is the convention, even though the date is on every page, but they somehow found the contact form first. We need to de-clutter, and class up our website. We have a lot of information to give people, but only a small handful needs it at any given time. Clean, clear, and visual with ease of finding the information users need is the goal with this design.
1. Homepage: needs to address the who? what? where? when? why? and how? The cleaner the better 2. Highlights Page: We would need a page to highlight a specific section or aspect of the event. This page would need to provide detailed information on one subject matter (http://www.momocon.com/dealers/ or http://www.momocon.com/workshops/ for example). This page would be the single most used template. 3. Category Page (http://www.momocon.com/momocon-gaming-convention/): MomoCon has 3 aspects, Animation, Gaming, and Comics. We would like to have a format that we could feature several of the Highlights Pages on one bigger category page, where one could click for more information. Ideally we would use the category page, such as momocon.com/gaming to send people who want to learn about the aspects of MomoCon that feature gaming (or animation, or comics). We could also use this page to drive search engine traffic. 4. Guests Page (http://www.momocon.com/guests/): Our 3rd most visited page on the website. People want to know who is coming to MomoCon as a guest, the guests background (why they should care), and what days they will be at MomoCon. 5. Important Information (http://www.momocon.com/momocon-2016-important-information/): If the homepage design is meant to be cleaner, then we have to have some page be more of a heavy dump of information. How can we deliver a lot of information in a clearer way on this page?
What to avoid
The webpage should be lighter colored, whites, grays to convey information. To make it less boring we are OK with blues, black, and reds, but the colors should not make up the majority of the screen.
At the end of the day the goal of the website is to educate people about MomoCon. But we also need to be better at the sales funnel. How can we turn someone who just visited the website, into someone who wants to come to MomoCon, and registers to attend right then?
