marketing 57 got their new web page design by running a design contest:
New Tape Store Website
Check out marketing 57's Web page design contest…
We are business to business distributor of tape and adhesives. We have locations across the West and in Georgia. Our differentiators are our educated sales team that visit customers, custom sized tapes and highly specialized tapes. Minimum order quantity is $100. We have will-call but no retail locations. Clients are businesses that buy any kind of sticky tape. They can be anything from small local businesses (cabinet shops, tombstone engravers, etc.) to multi-national high-tech firms (Lockheed Martin, Freeman Decorating, etc). We deal with three main people: 1) End-User (wants the best tape) 2) Buyer (wants the cheapest tape) 3) Executive (doesn't know what he wants). They are mostly 30-60 years old, mostly male, with mixed education. Industries include: Construction, Manufacturing, Industrial, Fabrication, Automotive, Aerospace, Painting, HVAC, Woodworking and many more. We are trying to recreate our brand from just a tape store to 1) We sell more than just tape. 2) Our sales experts make the difference (can't get that from competition). 3) We're more that just a pack-n-pick distributor; we have expertise to help solve your problems. 4) We can find or create specialty products for you.
We're targeting mostly men in the industrial and aerospace worlds so it needs to be "modern manly". A mix of clean whitespace and darker colors.
We're just working on the home page now. 1) Logo – of course this is in the header on every page. Standard location. 2) Navigation - Can be 1-3 nav bars on the page with the main menu being most prominent. I’d like one to be sticky when I scroll down w/ the logo in it. We would like to see mockup with the menu expanded to see the menu design you have in mind. a. Top – Home, About us, My account, Bulk Order, Reorder,Quick Cart (quick cart on click will show cart contents) b. Bottom – Products, Converting, Specialty, Locations, Contact Us, Get Quote 3) Search – Very important to easily see and use search bar. 4) Banner - This is first part of the Body section. Following standard expectations this will rotate or be a video and show off our special buys, company info, top products, etc. 5) Product Categories – It should include visuals (like Uline) help customers narrow down their search. I don’t have the images yet, but I will get images for each category. I still want this as above-the-fold as possible so that customers ready to buy can find what they want quckly. a. Categories are: Single-Sided Tapes, Double-Sided Tapes, Adhesives, Packaging Supplies, Safety and Janitorial, Specialty Products 6) Top Products – Should rotate 5-10 top products. Can be main body or sidebar. 7) About Us – Should be a paragraph with a few rotating images to help “tell our story”. Trying to give our brand more humanity than the other online stores. 8) Brands – Small section with logos of our main brands. Could be in the sidebar or footer. 9) Footer – Similar to what we already have. It will need to be mobile friendly as well so it must be a responsive design.
What to avoid
Not be too "2-dimensional"
