Jsteel got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Steel Fire Equipment Ltd needs a new website design
Check out Jsteel's Web page design contest…
Business to Business We are a manufacturer and wholesaler of fire and safety products. We use the website to provide more detailed, current information that is possible through our printed catalogue distributed yearly. The website allows us to provide more product information that what we can in a catalogue (video, spec sheets, training, operations manuals). It allows us to offer more products than we can in a printed catalogue. It also allows us to provide information that decreases the calls to customer service. For example, in the resources section of our website we have the Material Data Safety Sheets in pdf. Customers and end users can download these without having to call in.
Home page is to be simple, easy to read, only a few colors, professional Key goals are as follows: - Easily find where to sign into their account - Search for products (search bar required - zappos did a nice job of highlighting the search bar with a shaded box and search colour that drew you to it given the colour on the rest of the site) - Use product categories list to find products (horizontal or vertical navigation - it's up to you) - Easily find how to contact us - Easily find MSDS ("Material Data Safety Sheets") - Draw attention to new products Horizontal Navigation across the top should not be what we have on our site now. Simplify and go with what is best practice. We no longer have Fire Safety Plan Software so ignore that. Maybe just About Us, MSDS, Contact. Maybe incorporate shuffling pictures that promote products/categories with text like on manilla.com. Each would have a link that is noticeable where they can go to that product page. manilla's is "Try it. It's Free". Ours might be "More Info" (I know...boring). I have attached a list of our product categories along with some pictures. If you need anything picture wise let me know. Site footer should be a different colour with the following information: We're Here to Help - Contact Info - Returns - Shipping - Odd Product Sourcing - FAQs - Request a Catalogue/New Account Get to Know Us - About - Careers - Site Map - Become a Partner Distributor's Corner - Log In/Register - MSDS
What to avoid
Avoid feeling that you have to incorporate our logo style into the font and look of the site. I like our company logo but if the whole site reference the look and feel of it then it would be too visually harsh. If looking to our existing site for styling cues...don't. Our current site is way too busy, unorganized and visually outdated. We don't due a newsletter anymore so don't mention.
Every design category has flexible pricing for all budgets. Web page design starts at €549.
