charlotte 73 got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Give Mobilephones.com a professional redesign
Check out charlotte 73's Web page design contest…
Mobilephones.com is a comparison website for mobile phone contracts, SIM cards and Pay As You Go deals, as well as a resource for articles and reviews. The purpose of the site is to get users to a deal for a mobile phone and then to click out on that deal and complete with the third party mobile phone retailer or network.
We need the current site redesigned in a lift and shift process, i.e. use the existing structure but present a more considered and holistic design. We don’t have a set brand palette for Mobilephones.com and therefore are open to suggestions. We do have competitors in this space, from other comparison websites, through to the mobile phone retailers like Carphone Warehouse, so want to use a set of colours that can be identified as being linked to our brand. This means avoiding blue and green, as these are used by our competitors. Mobile phone images are usually quite colourful with the screensaver image used on screen. Therefore, we want to keep colour minimal and focused on the phone and CTAs, so we’d rather avoid the use of lots of different and distracting colours throughout the site. We need designs for desktop, mobile phone devices, and tablet.
Use the existing structure but present a more considered and holistic design. We're looking for four main templates to be designed in this process: 1. Homepage www.mobilephones.com 2. Deals page www.mobilephones.com/mobile-phone-deals, including a redesign of the filter deals section above results table (see example attached) 3. ‘Bridging’ page (this is the step before a user clicks out to complete the deal on the third party’s website) http://www.mobilephones.com/deal/?id=12228834951 (or see example attached)
What to avoid
We’re not keen on the fonts currently used on the site, the spacing or its style. It doesn’t look professional or provide users with the confidence that it’s a serious website that exudes trust and authority.
We have introduced CTA hierarchy and have different colours for the following: ● Buttons with internal clicks ● Buttons with external clicks (our main CTA) ● Buttons with a function (i.e. search or find) We’d like to retain colour differentiation between these buttons but they don’t have to use the colours we’re currently using on site.
