Entertainment & The Arts
I'm a writer of fiction and a blogger about living a literary life in Los Angeles.
What's your vision?
I'd like an all-purpose poster designed for a series of events I'll be putting on about living a literary life in Los Angeles. A couple specifics: I'd like the words "A Guide to Literary Los Angeles: How to find your writing community in a sprawling city" on the poster, as well as my name -- Siel Ju. I don't want dates / places on there as I want to be able to use the poster for multiple events. Now for some looser ideas: I'd like a graphic that evokes Los Angeles -- the city, the beach, the hope of the American dream / going west -- though not all these elements need to be included, and certainly not in a literal sense. I'd also like writing / books to be evoked in some way -- though again, a literal image of a pen is not what I'm asking for. I'm just throwing out some general ideas -- These are some themes / feelings I'd like the poster to evoke, not necessarily specific images I need the poster to include. Ideally, this image will be somewhat separate from the text itself. For example, I'm NOT looking for just a stock photo that runs behind the text. I'd prefer a unique graphic -- even if it's a simple one -- that I'd also be able to use by itself elsewhere too (e.g. on my blog). I'd like the whole thing to look pretty and legible printed on a standard 8.5x11 for say, the cover of an event program -- but to also look good if blown up to a larger size poster. Beyond that, I don't have a whole lot of specifics. I tend to have simpler, minimalist aesthetics and prefer clean lines to something super busy. But I'm willing to be surprised. I'm reluctant to specify / pin down too rigidly what I'm looking for visually, because I'm not the design expert here -- You are.
Ideally, I'd like to work with a designer who'll be able to work with me on a more long term basis. Beyond this poster, I'll be doing a website redesign and possibly some other things that require design work -- all related to the launch of my first book, a novel-in-stories called Cake Time, later this year. So, ideally, this poster project will sort of set the tone (in terms of design) for these other projects. My website is sielju.com, if that is helpful. You're welcome to contact me with questions! Because this is my first time doing this, I honestly don't know what information you need to create good designs. If there are others details you need or would like, please do ask :)
