PRODUCT - Film about a small Canadian tourist community fighting their government and a big developer to stop the construction of a grotesque hydroelectric plant in the middle of the town (a historic and naturally beautiful waterfall). TARGET AUDIENCE - North Americans (primarily in Ontario, Canada) of all ages who are protective of our natural world and intolerant of destructive government policies that favour corporate profits over the interests of local communities. DESIRED OUTCOME: Watch the film, go to FightForBala.com, donate voice/money/time to help us stop this dangerous, disruptive and unnecessary project before it is too late!
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
OVERVIEW: Design a visually dramatic and emotionally compelling movie poster that: 1) boldly displays the MOVIE TITLE [Main: “The Fight For Bala”, Sub: “It’s Not a Done Deal”] so it is intelligible from afar or when reduced small scale online. Ideally positioned in the center of the poster in case top/bottom crops are unavoidable. 2) visually teases the STORYLINE (big industry is taking over [crushing down upon] a beautiful, natural waterfall despite the protests of the local community). 3) illustrates the primary SCENE (beautiful small town waterfall) 4) reveals KEY CHARACTERS (industry/politicians, victim - small town community, hero = you, the viewer). **** See movie trailer at: vimeo.com/113814268 ***** Note: Only royalty free images & fonts should be used. REQUIRED OUTPUT: Movie Poster as layered photoshop file (all elements separate layers) - canvas size of 27” w x 40” h.
CREATIVE DIRECTION: * Contemporary, clean style (not vintage). * Professional, organized and/or serious feel (not comical, cute or terrifying/horror). * Photo composite treatment preferred over illustration. * No “actor” names required (as usually placed at the top of traditional movie posters). Please put "A Film by Rob Stewart and Jonah Bryson" * Typography should be bold, clean and interesting (not Helvetica!?) * Consider compositing the natural falls under industrial scene so as to be overwhelmed and dominated by industrial expansion and greed (see sketch). Consider employing “natural” transition elements such as mist, water spray, or clouds to separate disparate graphic sections. * Build composite protest group on bridge. * Industrial section should be realistic, very dark, shadowy, metallic, crisp: a) gear rollers b) large pipes c) smoke stacks - behind the fist. * Fist sticking out of the word "Fight" from the title. * Title behind the characters who are holding a "Save Bala" sign. * Large bulldozer coming through the centre of crowd, with smoke coming out of it. * Water should be beautiful, blue, shinny, but still somewhat realistic. * Colourful and beautiful trees - with paint marks on them (for cutting). * Try to fill up the bridge over the falls with protestors and please put a couple characters from the film in between the protestors. * Have fun!... while helping us Save Bala!
