solveigarnesen got their new app design by running a design contest:
GrowApp - Innovative app-design to encourage people grow their own food sustainably
Check out solveigarnesen's App design contest…
We are developing an app for urban agriculture. The intention of the app is to be a useful tool for people with little or no experience to get going on their own urban agriculture project whether that is on their balcony, in the backyard, community garden, or on free land. A central feature of the app is the garden planner, where people can put in information about where in the world their garden is located, climate conditions, lighting conditions and soil conditions. Given the information they put in the users can plan their garden and get advice about what kind of plants can grow under their conditions. Because a lot of people start garden projects, but give up because they don't get it right or don’t get the results they want the My Garden page is an important feature to nudge people to get over the most common hurdles in starting a garden project.
Great user experience is key Appealing visuals Nudging design, encouraging people to "connect" with their garden. Connecting the virtual universe of the app with the physical realm of the garden. We are not providing thoughts on colours etc, because we want to be complete open to the ideas of the designers.
The contest will be to define a design direction. We ask you to focus on the My Garden screen, but please look at the total design brief and choose 5 screens to include in your proposal. The app includes 20 - 30 screens and the winner will be hired to design the whole app in a 1-to-1 project after the contest. The screen we want everyone to include ideas for in the contest is the My Garden screen. Description of the screen: My garden This is page where the user “connect” with their on-going garden project. This is where the love of gardening happens. Visually appealing and nudging page. Showing the garden lay-out. Photo-gallery, special moments in my garden. Following the progress of my plants in a visual way ( i.e it’s 20 days since I sowed carrots, what do they look like in the soil? I can’t take them up and look at them, but I am very curious what they look like and when they will be ready). Garden diary, notebook where the user can put down remarks from their garden experience Description of the entire app is attached as a document. Please, get in touch if anything is unclear.
