Jwdorst got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a trustworthy but not conservative logo for the License Engineers

License Engineers is a two-man company (one lawyer, one license expert) . We buy software license contracts and sell them on again. Sometime we split them up and sell the parts seperately. Our work is technical in a legal/contractual sense (thus the use of the word Engineers). The market for used software licenses is in its early stages. Customers (both seller and buyers) need to be convinced that it is possible to buy/sell license contracts. This means we need to be subject matter experts and people must trust us. Our customers are medium and large, IT heavy, businesses. generally male dominated. We are somewhat disruptive in the sense that software companies use fear, uncertainty and doubt (FUD) to try to prevent customers from participating in the used software license market. For every used license that changes hands, the software vendors miss an opportunity to sell a new license. We challenge their FUD tactics and offer expertise and assurance to our customers. It's often a David (us) and Goliath (the software vendors) type situation. I guess that if documents are the material we work with at License Engineers, then our brains and knowledge are our tools. No idea how to represent either of those in a logo, but perhaps you do? Themes in our business are: - recycle - re-use - save - beat the system (i.e. software vendors) - be convincing by demonstrating subject matter expertise - trustworthiness - contracts - legal - well balanced. Maybe there is a way to incorporate a reference to the scales of justice in the design? Many of our customers feel there is justice in the fact that they are able to buy software without having to be completely dependant on the software vendors, who they often percieve to be just money-hungry extortionists!
