samueldeese got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a logo for software that embodies elegance!

Sembit is a small Portland based company that writes custom software for businesses. Our target customers are generally enterprise to medium sized businesses, based in the US and from a wide variety of verticals. As a reference point, our largest customers are household names with over 50B in revenue.
The current symbol is a snowflake and represents uniqueness of our customers’ challenges and of the software we use to solve those challenges. The symbol needs a rebirth and I’m open to that being either a new symbol or a better version of the snowflake. My default is to stick with the snowflake only because I can’t think of many alternatives. One idea is a very unique looking puzzle piece going into place. Type Treatment The type treatment does not have to be a unique font or to interact with the symbol. A Google font or similar free source will suffice. We expect the design team to pick a font that dovetails with the symbol but here are a few that I like as a reference point: • Lato • Rubik • Muli • Asap Logo Style preference • Clean lines • Simple • Spacious Logo Palette • We definitely need a new palette. I’m also open to suggestions here but the overall sensation should be one of calm over excitement, cool over stimulating. We are trying to take a complex problem/solution set and make it more Zenlike. The background should be white. Logo Versions We’ll Need • Symbol only • Symbol and type treatment with the text “Sembit” • Symbol and type treatment with the text “Sembit” and subtext “Unique Software For Your Unique Business” • Prefer to have the type be not inside the symbol Logo Requirements • Scalable, should look good in a variety of resolutions. EG: on a business card, medium sized icon on a website, desktop website logo, letterhead, PowerPoint deck etc. • One shortcoming with the current logo is that the thin lines tend to somewhat disappear when you shrink it down.
