Emma.maidment got their new illustration or graphics by running a design contest:
Community Contest: Street Art Design to be Painted Outside the 99designs Melbourne HQ
Check out Emma.maidment's Illustration or graphics contest…
99designs is the #1 marketplace for graphic design, with some of the most talented and creative designers in the world! If you're reading this... you probably know that :)
What's your vision?
The 99designs Melbourne HQ needs help with a street art design as part of a community project in conjunction with Creative Suburbs. Creative Suburbs Melbourne is an online platform setup for members of the local community to put forward ideas that they want to see developed in the community. The ideas should enhance the local area and benefit the community as a whole. 99designs became aware of an idea via Creative Suburbs to spray paint the wall outside of our Melbourne office that is currently blank. The wall belongs to the train station and has been intentionally left blank. The awesome folk behind this project have given 99designs one whole panel of wall to showcase a design and theme that represents us. That’s where we need you, our awesome community of designers! We would like you to help us by creating a street art mural design to be featured on the wall. The design will be given to the street artist and interpreted into a street art design. This design will be out there for the Melbourne community to see and we are super excited to show off what our community can do! You can check out the campaign here: https://www.creativesuburbs.com.au/ideasdetails/199 We are open to all concepts and want to see lots of creativity. Richmond is a very culturally diverse area and we would like to see that represented through the designs too. There are a couple of things to keep in mind: Themes We want to keep this very open so that your creativity can shine through. There is no central theme for the campaign so we have decided to provide theme suggestions that we think represents 99designs and our Melbourne office. We have a couple of suggestions to get you started: ***The future of Richmond as the new hub for innovation and startups*** The area and building that we are located in used to be dominated by the wool industry, our office is actually a converted wool shed! We want to visually demonstrate the change in industry that this area has seen by showcasing the fact that these old wool shed buildings are now the home of tech startups and innovative businesses. ***Connectedness*** Richmond is a hub suburb in-between and connecting the north of Melbourne to the south. This can be seen in literal transport connections (i.e. Richmond station is one of Melbourne's largest stations). There are a bunch of trams that run through Richmond going to all sorts of places. Richmond is now connecting people in new ways via tech startups, hubs and innovative, creative businesses. You could explore the idea of these old and new concepts of connectedness. Keeping in mind that one of 99designs’ core values its to connect the world via graphic design. *** Creative Suburbs*** The team at creative suburbs believe that “government is at its best when acting as a platform that works to bring citizens, civil servants and entrepreneurs together to build new ways of solving problems that affect us all. Our vision is to make our cities more interactive, encourage a more responsive government, and create meaningful change through long-term engagement.” This quote might also help with your inspiration. ***New/old*** The building our office is located in is an old AKM wool factory. It is now the home of tech startups and co-working spaces. We love that these early 20th century buildings are old on the outside, but on the inside are now inhabited by modern businesses and families. - Tram and train routes in the area date back to the late 1800s - modern trams still running on these routes. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melbourne_tram_route_75) - Lots of old pubs and hotels - still exist and function as pubs and hotels. - The MCG - one of Australia’s largest and most well known sporting grounds founded in 1838 - still going. Style We're looking for something to showcase the full creativity of our design community. Be as creative as you can. An abstract street art style illustration is what we have in mind. We want you to have full creative freedom so let your creative juices flow! Check out our Pinterest board for some inspiration: http://www.pinterest.com/emaidment1851/melbourne-street-art-project-inspiration/ You can also see a recent contest we ran for our Melbourne board room design. It’s full of great inspiration: https://99designs.com.au/illustrations/contests/designs-needs-beautiful-mural-melbourne-office-265664 ***Dimension*** The wall is roughly 3.5 meters high and 12 meters long (see attached photo). There is to be no green, red or words used in the designs. As the wall belongs to Metro Trains they have made this request as it is inline with their OH&S. The file can come in any form during the handover phase. We can't wait to see your designs! :)
