nicpottier got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Create an Android app icon for Sim Buddy
Check out nicpottier's Icon or button contest…
We need an icon for our Android application which is called Sim Buddy. The application creates shortcuts for users to send USSD codes on prepaid lines, primarily in developing countries. Instead of having to send *110*085185815815851#, they can use the menus in Sim Buddy to load airtime from a voucher using a clean user interface.
What's your vision?
The app icon should probably refer to a SIM card in some way, or evoke the shape of a SIM card, though it isn't strictly required. Other things you may use would be the # and * symbols as they are used for USSD commands, but that isn't required either. We are looking more for sophisticated than cutesy. (ie, no Clippy) You can find the Play listing here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nyaruka.quickaccess Note that it probably won't show anything interesting yet if you load the app on your Android device on the US, but if you happen to be in Rwanda, Kenya or Uganda, then it will be pretty neat. Make sure to follow the Android launcher guidelines as outlined here: http://developer.android.com/design/style/iconography.html Most critically: "Use a distinct silhouette. Three-dimensional, front view, with a slight perspective as if viewed from above, so that users perceive some depth."
You can also look at the design of the application itself, which may help, we've included a screenshot.
