Young adult epic fantasy book series
What's your vision?
This is the first book in a young adult epic fantasy series. The book is about a 15 year old girl who is sent on a long journey in another world with a team of her peers to retrieve a magical coin that will cure children and her father of an infection that eventually turns them into demons (she finds out later that her father released the plague as an act of terrorism). Of course, they are under a time constraint. Once she finds the coin it identifies her as being the holder of a magical warrior bloodline that was thought to have gone extinct. That describes the outer journey, which is reflected in the inner journey of the main character. The protagonist is a spoiled, pampered teen who is thrust out of her comfy, secure home and sent to another world. Her materialism and need to "have" comes from inner feelings of guilt and lack due to her mother dying while giving birth to her and her father's subsequent emotional distance. This disconnect from her family makes the protagonist materialistic and selfish. On her journey she has to confront her inner feelings of worthlessness by connecting to her spirituality, done by reconciling her feelings towards her parents and connecting to her ancestral energy. Overcoming her feelings of lack is the only way she will be able to retrieve the coin and save the children. Of course, as an epic fantasy, there is magic in the story, as well as gnomes, trolls, sorcerers, princess', demons. The characters fight with daggers, labrys', swords. The landscape of the world is a cross between middle earth and medieval. I prefer simple covers with no people (body parts like hands, arms, etc are okay.) Think of the original Twilight cover (with the apple) and the 50 Shades of Grey cover (with the knot of a tie). I am open to more complicated designs if you think it's a winner. The most representative object in the story is the coin-- magical, gold, ancient, with a pentagram design. I describe the coin as "intricately designed" in the book (I am open to simple coin design too). Perhaps with a teen girl's hand holding the coin with a ruined manicure (broken polish, dirt under nail and around cuticle, as if she has been hiking in the woods for a week). The protagonist is a 15 year old girl whose eyes are violet. It would be great if you could put something in that would indicate a time constraint (I have no idea how, but maybe you can think of something!) No stock images, please. The title of the book is: Shock of Fate. I'm looking for something intriguing that will catch the eye and peak the curiosity of teen and middle aged girls (without excluding boys, if possible.) I want readers to see the design and be driven by desire to grab the book to find out what's going on inside the pages. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
I will also need to print this design into posters and use the image on social media for marketing purposes. This is book one (but want to keep that off the cover for now) and will be seen by a major NYC publishing house. Additional work on other projects is more than likely for the winner.
