What's your vision?
I want an illustrated cover for a print book - front cover, back cover, and spine. No clip art or photos please. The cover needs to feels like it belongs with the first book in the series, The Feather Chase (see images). It cannot copy any of the elements of the first cover exactly because the designer retained the rights to it. I want an overall feel that is fun and mysterious. This series isn't scary, but it is exciting for kids ages 8-12 to read. The main characters are girls so most of my readers are girls, but some boys do read the books too so a color like light pink and very girly feel wouldn't be right. For colors, I'm not a huge fan of orange so if there is orange on it, it has to be a small amount. This is book two in the series so a 2 should go at the top of the spine. Elements that could be included: silhouettes of the two main characters - both are 12-year-old girls. Sophie has brown hair pulled back in a ponytail and wears jeans and T-shirts. Jessica has shoulder length blonde hair that she wears loose, often wear shorts and a top. Pine Trees - the town is called Pine Hill A lake surrounded by pine trees and low mountains A big, old, slightly spooky mansion (but not as the main image on the cover because a competing series uses that) There is a fun scene in the book where Sophie (the one with the ponytail, climbs a tree to see where they are in a forest. Keys - this story has many keys as part of the mystery. A decorative old fashioned key or two would be great Back Cover Copy (not the final version): They must unlock the mystery— before time runs out Unwrapping a mysterious package launches twelve-year-old cousins Sophie and Jessica into the dangerous mystery of The Treasure Key. They’re soon racing against time—and bad guys—to be the first to find the long lost treasure. Outdoorsy Sophie and brainy, city-girl Jessica are spending the summer in Sophie’s small town of Pine Hill. They’ve decided to be friends and that’s good since the two of them have already found danger as they worked together to solve The Feather Chase.
The cover is to be placed by the designer onto a Lightning Source template provided by the author. I also want to have an unlocked Photoshop file of the cover. The font used for the author's name and the back cover copy is Pluto Light and I bought that font so it can be used here. The title and the headline on the back of the book were hand lettered. This book can use hand lettering (NOT copying this exactly) or a font that is similar. I would rather not pay for fonts. I cannot stress enough that the cover needs to be in a style that compliments the first cover, but does not copy it. If the two books were sitting side by side, they would have to look like they're from the same series. I have a logo that will go at the base of the spine. The color around it will need to be changed to a color that matches this cover. (I do that for each book cover.) The same color is to be used for a bar across the top of the barcode that will have my web address of www.shannonlbrown.com on it.
