Entertainment & The Arts
I am a fantasy writer. This book is aimed at adults, and tends to be on the darker side.
What's your vision?
Note 1: A lot of the designs submitted follow a similar trend. I'd like to see a few that are way different. Note 2: following on from Note 1, I would like to see some covers that do not use the background attached. It was there for when needed, but when everyone uses it, it makes all the submissions very samey. Note 3: I would prefer a clean look. When too cluttered, it makes it harder to be distinct at a small thumbnail size. The book is titled "Dark Legion". It it is the first book of a trilogy. The series is called "Blood of Blood". I have an existing cover which I forgot to attach to the brief. Its serviceable, but lacks a certain something. I'd rather something different than an adaptation of the same idea. the current one works, but looks a bit lacking in thumbnail size. I am not wowed by it, and I want to be wowed. You can find it by searching amazon for the title and author. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00LEMDH44 The cover needs to convey it's genre, being fantasy (sword and sorcery), and at least hint that it deals with some darker areas. There is plenty of violence involved. The only thing it must have is an image of the protagonist, Saul, which is attached to this brief. The book deals with slavery. The protagonist is a prince who became a slave when his kingdom fell to the empire that rules much of his continent. He escapes his slavery early in the book, and fights to free his people from their chains. The image of a lion is mentioned many times in the book, and if makes sense to include it, do. The protagonist can use magic. More specifically, he can use others "true names" to control them. He needs to fuel this magic with his own pain. I'm not sure if its possible to convey any of this, but if you can think of a clever way to do so, feel free. The main antagonists in this story is the inquisition, a group of men who are tattooed with the last words of those they have put to the question. I have attached a couple of images of them you are free to use if it makes sense. Other images and concepts that are in the book and may be included: Ravens, setting is a Renaissance inspired fantasy world, there are plenty of roman influences too, chains. Please do whatever pleases the eye, as I mentioned, the only component that must be included is the protagonist. The rest are just elements that are included in the story, and may form part of the cover where it looks good. Must look good in thumbnail size as well with title legible. The book blurb: Once a Prince, now a slave. Once a torturer, now a liberator. But still his transformation is nowhere near complete... Saul Baz Sharmoun has been holding onto something lost to many of his fellow slaves: hope and a desire for justice. A fire was set ablaze within him, growing brighter with each of the twelve years since the Emperor slaughtered his family, and he knows the time to escape his shackles - and to free his people - is now. With his hunger for retribution fueling him, Saul begins an epic journey, searching for his brother and looking to rebuild a world that would allow the crown in his family's name to rise from the ashes. But the road to justice is never a straight one. Saul and the uncertain allies fighting alongside him find themselves up against a much greater enemy than they could have imagined. If he is to emerge victorious, he must fan the flames in his heart, and never allow himself to forget that he will stop at nothing to see this done...no matter how much blood must be spilled along the way.
