What's your vision?
My name is Brad Grusnick and I am looking for a full wrap cover for the paperback and ebook for my new novel, THE LAST DANCE OF LOW SEWARD. It is the second book in a trilogy featuring Nick Archer, a laid back LAPD detective, and Ray Cobb, a homeless man with an odd sense of honor. The series is darkly comic, gritty, and full of the real squalor of life on the streets. It takes the old trope of private detective working outside the law and turns it on its head by making the investigator a homeless man. The cover should be for a 5.25"x8" paperback. Spine width approx. .844" Title: The Last Dance of Low Seward Subtitle: A Cobb/Archer Mystery Here is the synopsis for the back cover of the book: "Homeless, stricken with sickness, and drenched by the cold January rain, Ray Cobb wants nothing more than a dry place to sleep for the night. When he discovers a body in his Chinatown squat and is framed for the murder, he has to turn to his old friend–Detective Nick Archer–to clear his name. But Ray is going to have to prove his innocence without Nick’s help. The detective is dealing with a bizarre murder case of his own. Low Seward, the biggest action star in the world, has just been found shot and mutilated in a dirty Skid Row apartment. Nick only has two leads–a packet of mysterious purple powder found on the victim and a set of whacked out witnesses glued to the floor. Ray and Nick’s investigations collide as they slide deep into a secret world of drugged out movie stars, indentured Ukrainian hitmen, and a fastidious florist prone to kidnapping. Mistakes from the past resurface and both men learn that reckless decisions can have dire consequences." As far as the design goes, I am open to all interpretations. There is a focus in the book on a drug that is made from morning glory flowers and comes in the form of a purple powder, so that might help. The cover of the first book, The Last Will and Testament of Ernie Politics, which I have included for reference, is hued in orange highlights. This book cover can skew toward dark purple highlights, but it is not necessary. Other themes/images from the book you can use for inspiration: homelessness, seedy underworld, Los Angeles, Skid Row, Russian Mafia (There is a tattoo on people's forearms that reads "Property of The Bear" in Cyrillic), movie stars/Hollywood (but please nothing with the Hollywood sign), and a body found in a rusted yellow 1974 Chevy Impala. I would also like the logo of my publishing company across the back cover on the bottom by the barcode, Strange Scribe. I have included an ai version for your convenience. Thanks and good luck!
