Romance / Romantic Suspense novel, aimed primarily at women, teenaged and older.
What's your vision?
I am looking for a cover for my novel titled Misty Lake. The book is a romance / romantic-suspense novel, is the first in a series, and is also my first published book so I'm new to the process. The book will be available in print (Amazon print-on-demand) as well as in e-book format so I will need a front cover design that that works for Createspace as well as for Kindle (looks good in thumbnail form) AND a spine and back cover for the print version. I don't know much about the technical aspect but if I understand correctly, the following formats are needed: - Kindle cover in native design format - Kindle cover as a high-quality JPG file - Createspace cover in native format - Createspace cover as a flattened PDF file - 3D cover as a PNG file The cover size will be 5x8 inches. The story is about a young woman, Samantha (Sam) Taylor who, following the death of her grandfather, learns she has inherited a grand home on Misty Lake in Misty Lake, Minnesota. Somewhat reluctantly, Sam decides to relocate to Misty Lake in an attempt to start over after losing all those dearest to her. She moves and starts up her woodworking business only to become the victim of a vandal. The town's sheriff, Jake McCabe, becomes involved and works to find the person responsible for the crimes (destruction of property, arson, and an attempt at Sam's life while, at the same time, trying to win Sam's heart. I am envisioning a cover that perhaps features a lake (trees around the lake work, mountains do not, as the story takes place in Minnesota), maybe a house on a lake (a big house with lots of windows, wood, and stone), maybe (but maybe not) something to hint at danger (flames, a knife, a gun) but nothing too dark. This is just a suggestion; if you have another idea, by all means go for it! I am anxious to get your take on a design. Important: I do not want people on the cover...the book is not erotic, does not include a lot of sex, so I definitely don't want partially-clad people. The following needs to be included: Title of book - Misty Lake Subtitle - Book One in the Misty Lake Series Author - Margaret Standafer (please have title more prominent than author's name) Synopsis for back cover - Samantha (Sam) Taylor has lost all those dearest to her…her parents, her brother, and now the grandfather who raised her. When his will is read and some of his secrets come to light, Sam finds herself back in Misty Lake, Minnesota, a place that holds countless happy memories but, as she quickly discovers, just as many questions. Jake McCabe, Misty Lake’s sheriff, is as curious as anyone about the town’s newest resident but it isn’t until Sam becomes the victim of a particularly cruel vandal that he meets her and gets a look at the house that has everyone in town talking. As Jake races to keep Sam safe from the escalating attacks, he also works to break down the wall she has built around herself and to convince her that a life without love isn’t a life at all.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my book cover contest. I am anxious to see what a group of creative people will come up with for a design. As stated, this is the first book in a series so I am hoping to find a designer I can work with on subsequent titles. Have fun!

It was a pleasure working with Kristin and I intend to use her for my book covers going forward. I loved her concept, the way she portrayed my character, the background and the care she took to make sure that the branding of this cover was consistent with previous ones, done by my publisher's now retired cover artist. She was prompt in making changes and open to suggestion. I'm looking forward to a continued professional relationship.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
