What's your vision?
An ebook cover for the first of at least nine books called "The Dead Reckoning Saga." The first book follows Alexis from the age of 8-months-old to the age of 18-years-old. Alexis is a average american girl growing up. The adults around her are all unusual people. As the novel progresses these adults leave their mark on Alexis making sure that she too, when she reaches her 18th birthday, is a strange and special person. I need a cover that will draw the reader into the Alexis world. Alexis is a young girl growing up in East Texas in the USA. Alexis lives just outside the small fictional town of Misty Texas. Her parents are running from their pasts, and are trying to rase their daughter in a perfect rural life. In this first novel the darkness of her parents' past is just on the edges of her life. The center of the image should be as seemingly perfect as Alexis' young life. Maybe there could be some dark clouds just on the very horizon. Alexis' home is a distance from town. A two-lane black top leads from town. There is a small shelter, at the drive to the house, for the children to wait for the school bus. There is a mail box on a post, the other side of the drive, as well as a paper box. (That looks like a smaller mailbox with no door.) A long gravel drive leads away from the road past a pecan orchard to the left of the drive, and an open field to the right of the drive. In the distance to the right is a tree line. The gravel drive stops short of the house, with a graveled area for parking cars and trucks. There is one blue sedan (1961 model) and a truck (1955 model) The house is a wood frame house with a long veranda stretching along the front side of the house. The house has two stories and is white. A steep path leads up to the steps of the veranda. There are several steps leading from the path to the veranda. There are two doors leading from the house onto the veranda. There is a two-person glider on the left side of veranda, and several pieces of bent twig furniture on the right. The house should be drawn to be seem large enough to have a ground floor with with office, living room, kitchen, dinning room, mud room, and a large staircase leading up to the second floor. The upper floor has four bedrooms, a hallway and a bathroom. The attic is tall and peaked, covering most of the house. The house is set on a small hill. Some of the inspiration photos I have attached show houses in disrepair. The your illustration should show a house in good repair. There is another small hill in the distance to left of the house. Remember that this is Texas, so the hills shouldn't be too tall. A pathway leads off toward the distant hill from the house. Behind the house are various out-buildings that one would see on a working farm, including a large old-fashioned barn. I am attaching photos of some barns. Some of the barns in the photos are in disrepair. In you illustration, the barn should be in good repair. The back ground of the house shouldn't be too predominate. The house and the drive need to be the focus of the image. I would prefer not to have human images on the cover, however dogs, cats, horses, and farm animals would be okay. If you do find the need to put in humans, let me know and I will give you descriptions, also please make them indistinct. Alexis has two black cats and a siamese. Her dogs are boarder collies (one red and white, and the other black and white). The main thing is to get the house and the area around it looking right. After that you are free to get creative and show me something I haven't thought about. Silhouettes are okay too. Title: Safe Harbor: The House at the End of the Dive Author Name: Sandra L. Pirtle Tagline/Subheading: The First of the Dead Reckoning Saga (The editors may split this book up into volumes so, think about leaving a space where a volume number could be added later.)
Preference will be given to finalist who render the design in several aspect ratios, and file formats, to be used across e-reader formats. 1600 pixels by 2400 pixels must be one of the aspect ratios used. *.PSD must be one of the file formats With this first book the cover should focus on the house Alexis lives in. I am attaching some inspiration photos. I don't have the rights to these photos so DO NOT reproduce them. They are only to give you direction. The cover needs look good both in color and black and white since it will be on Kindle as well as other tablets. I love the Courier Prime font, and would like to see it used for the text.
