What's your vision?
I need a new cover for paperback and ebook versions of a noir'esque thriller novel. The cover must be both eye catching, and true to the deep theme of the book. Heather is set in Australia, mainly in Sydney’s Kings Cross, and also in the Caribbean and South Pacific. It’s written in third person. When a Canadian yacht arrives in Sydney sailed single-handed by a twitchy schoolteacher, marina manager Sam Autenburg suspects that the Canadian is not a bona-fide cruiser. A few nights later, in the early hour of the morning, Sam hears a woman calling for help. The Canadian is holding Heather (an escort) on the boat against her will. Sam sorts the situation out, fruitlessly searching the woman’s bag for the cash and credit cards the Canadian claims she’d stolen. Three days later, the Canadian is found dead in a brothel in Sydney’s red light district. He’d been dipping into the cocaine that he’d brought in for the infamous Reed brothers, who run some of the nightclubs, and most of the drug scene, in Sydney's Kings Cross. The Canadian had overdosed on heavily cut cocaine. He’d also been selling some of the cocaine, and as a result, others died; among them, Sam’s lover, Marie. Sam goes on a bender. When Heather the escort rescues Sam after he falls down blind-drunk in an alley beside a strip-joint, she discovers that Sam is MI6, and she sees it as a chance to avenge the death of her sister who died of a drug overdose two years before. She taunts and cajoles the reluctant Sam into helping her gather evidence against the Reed brothers. When Sam agrees to join her, they embark on a daring, high-risk venture that takes them deep into the Sydney underworld. They both penetrate the underworld, ultimately delivering a drug laden yacht from the Caribbean, towards Australia. Heather is a story about how people are changed by circumstance and pressure, both external and internal, and how when released from that pressure, some are able to become their true self. Please see sample chapters for a more in depth understanding of the two MCs.
TITLE: Flank Street SUBTITLE: In The Sydney Underworld. AUTHOR: A.J. Sendall. DIMENSIONS: 8"x 5" (approx. 450 pages) Currently distributed through Createspace. I've no preconceived ideas for the cover, other than it should reflect the noirish nature of the book. As it's set in 1999 in Sydney, a true noir style with fedoras and Venetian blinds won't work, but the moodiness and criminal undercurrent will. The uploaded cover is one I put together... perhaps more use as to what not to do. I'll supply a free copy of the novel in PDF, as well as a synopsis if required.
